IWGIA's involvement in the work of the Special Rapporteur on Indigenous Peoples

IWGIA has fostered close cooperation with the Special Rapporteur by providing the Rapporteur with information on the situation of indigenous peoples. In recent years, IWGIA has also given special priority to supporting indigenous initiatives aimed at facilitating dialogue with the Special Rapporteur.

Activities supported by IWGIA in relation to the work of the UN Special Rapporteur on Indigenous Peoples include:

· Providing financial support to activities in connection with the Special Rapporteur’s country missions.

· Providing financial and technical support to follow-up activities on the Special Rapporteur’s country reports.

· Providing financial support to indigenous representatives to participate in UN Commission on Human Rights sessions to present their views on the Special Rapporteur’s reports.

The support is allocated via IWGIA’s Human Rights Programme.
