The Central African Republic ratifies ILO Convention 169

April 28 2010
The Central African Republic has ratified the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention 169 on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples. The Central African Republic is the first African country to ratify this convention.

Adopted in 1989, ILO Convention No. 169 is based on the recognition of indigenous and tribal peoples’ aspirations to exercise control over their own institutions, ways of life and economic development and to maintain and develop their identities, languages and religions, within the framework of the States in which they live.
