Land rights of indigenous peoples in Africa Barume, Albert Kwokwo IWGIA - November 2008
This book focuses on the situation in Kenya and Tanzania where indigenous peoples have tried to address the land dispossession and have taken their governments and other stakeholders to court. How did these court cases end? Were indigenous lands retroceded to their owners? Why did certain cases fail and how can indigenous land rights be better protected? These are some of the questions the publication addresses.
The Concept of Indigenous Peoples in Asia - A Resource Book Erni, Christian (ed.) IWGIA and the Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) 2008
This resource book compiles a number of previously published and unpublished articles that will help the reader to develop a deeper understanding of the Asian controversy on the concept of indigenous peoples. These are complemented with the key results of a workshop organized by Asian indigenous organizations in Thailand in March 2006, including experiences and issues identified as being common to indigenous peoples in South, Southeast and East Asia, and country profiles identifying indigenous peoples based on these commonalities, providing an overview on prevalent terminologies applied, and most relevant legislations pertaining to indigenous peoples in the various countries of the region.
