The Organisation
The Board The international board is the highest governing body of the organization. The board is elected by the members of IWGIA.

Up for election in the coming years: 2008: Diana Vinding and Robert Hitchcock 2009: Espen Wæhle and Mark Nuttall The Secretariat IWGIA's international secretariat is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The secretariat is the executive body of the organisation. The secretariat is responsible for administration and coordination of IWGIA's activities.
The secretariat runs a documentation centre/library, which is open to the public. The secretariat is also responsible for dissemination of information, documentation and publication of books and periodicals on indigenous affairs.

Membership
IWGIA is a work group, the core of which is an active membership base. Members pay an annual fee. Membership follows the calendar year.
Applications for membership are addressed to the Board, which must approve the applications. Click below to apply for membership.
Once every year, all members are called for a general meeting, the Annual Forum. The Forum has consultative status as an advisory body to the Board.
Membership
Local Groups
A group of members can form a local group or an interest group. IWGIA now has 6 local members' groups. These groups are based in Copenhagen, Lund, Gothenburg, Zurich, France and Oslo. They work on a voluntary basis, for example in areas of lobbying, publications, film festivals and educating on indigenous issues. They do an important job in spreading awareness of indigenous peoples and IWGIA.
