During a board meeting on June 14-16 2007, IWGIA's board unanimously decided to appoint Ms Lola García-Alix as new Director of IWGIA. The appointment took place after a thorough review, and García-Alix started her new job on June 18.

New reports from the African Commission
In cooperation with IWGIA, The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights has recently published two reports produced by the Commission's Working Group on Indigenous Populations/Communities. The two reports describe the situation of the indigenous populations in Burundi and the Republic of Congo respectively, and give recommendations to the governments, civil society organizations and the international community on how to promote and protect their rights.

Important updates on IWGIA's web site
Over the past months there have been intense discussions between governmental delegations to the UN in New York on the UN Declaration on Indigenous Peoples Rights. The Declaration is up for adoption before the present session of the UN General Assembly ends in September 2007.
