The appointment took place after a thorough review, and García-Alix started her new job on June 18. Read the board's note on the appointment of Lola García-Alix New reports from the African Commission In cooperation with IWGIA, The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights has recently published two reports produced by the Commission's Working Group on Indigenous Populations/Communities. The two reports describe the situation of the indigenous populations in Burundi and the Republic of Congo respectively, and give recommendations to the governments, civil society organizations and the international community on how to promote and protect their rights. The Declaration is up for adoption before the present session of the UN General Assembly ends in September 2007.
