The report from the regional sensitization seminar: “the Rights of Indigenous Populations / Communities in Central Africa” is published in both English and French. The seminar took place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, 13-16 September 2006 and was organised by the African Commission for human and peoples’ rights in collaboration with IWGIA. The Seminar brought together participants drawn from indigenous civil society organisations, indigenous communities, National Human Rights Institutions, NGOs, state delegates from the Central African region, members of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and organs of the African Union. Local NGOs, journalists, the academia and other institutions interested in indigenous issues also attended the deliberations. The seminar was the first in a series of sensitization seminars to be held in different regions of Africa. The report gives an overview of all the presentations made during the seminar, as well as clear recommendations to member states, to the African Commission of Human and Peoples’ Rights, to the African National Human Rights Institutions, and to NGOs.
