Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Paraguay, and Mexico have been his working area since he joined IWGIA in 1991. Alejandro Parellada’s main focus is indigenous peoples’  land rights and communication. He has worked with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights for many years. Alejandro Parellada holds a Master in History of Religions and Social Anthropology from the University of Lund in Sweden.
