Indigenous peoples in Russia is Johannes Rohr’s area of expertise. He has a special focus on land rights, extractive industries, nature conservation and human rights including reporting to international human rights mechanisms. He studied East European History, Slavic Studies and Political Sciences at Cologne University in Germany and is now based in Berlin. Since 1992 he has worked with indigenous communities affected i.a. by oil extraction and denial of fishing rights in places such as Western Siberia, Kamchatka and Komi. Since 2013, he has supported indigenous peoples’ participation in the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights and related processes.
