Center for Legal Studies and Social Research (CEJIS)

Miscellaneous Information

Miscellaneous Information:

Centro de Estudios Jurídicos e Investigación Social (CEJIS) is a non-profit association working for human rights from a socio-legal approach. It was founded in 1978 and, in the 1990s, was involved in advising the indigenous organisations on the incorporation of their rights into national legislation and also sponsored the land titling processes.

CEJIS endeavours to contribute to and influence the debates, reflections and theoretical production on the substantive elements of the Plurinational State, linked in particular to the autonomous processes of indigenous and peasant peoples, plural justice administration and the political participation of the most vulnerable sectors of society. In order to achieve these objectives, the organisation works to defend the individual and collective rights of indigenous and peasant peoples in relation to actions that are threatening to violate or reverse those rights. Its work approach is based on supporting cases submitted to the national bodies and regional and universal human rights protection systems.
