Coordinadora Andina de Organizaciones Indígenas (CAOI) is a coordinating body of the indigenous Andean organisations of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Colombia. It was established on 17 July 2006 at its Founding Congress, held in Cusco, Peru. Its main objective is to obtain full exercise of indigenous rights, in particular the rights to self-determination, territory and free prior and informed consent/consultation, and to fight the criminalisation of indigenous demands and the militarisation of their territories.
CAOI’s central proposal is to establish Good Living (‘Buen Vivir’) and plurinational states. For this, it conducts research and works to restore the indigenous peoples and ensure their coordination across the continent and in relation to other social movements, and to develop alternatives for political advocacy in international fora.
