Endorois Welfare Council

Miscellaneous Information

Miscellaneous Information:

The Endorois Welfare Council is a community based organization established in 2003. It was founded by the senior members of the Endorois indigenous community living in the Lake Bogoria area of Baringo and Koibatek districts, as well as in Nakuru and Laikipia districts within the Rift valley province in Kenya.

The organization was originally created to respond to human rights violations arising from the community’s forced eviction from Lake Bogoria for the creation of a Game Reserve in 1973. Its mandate has since expanded to promote leadership and training on conflict resolution, advocacy and literacy among the marginalized groups within the Endorois community – namely, women, youth and the disabled. The EWC has also expanded to strengthen micro-finance schemes for bee-keeping.
