Cambodia Indigenous Youth Association

Miscellaneous Information

Miscellaneous Information:

Cambodia Indigenous Youth Association (CIYA) was established by a group of Cambodian Indigenous Students in Phnom Penh in 2005. It was officially recognized by the Royal Government of Cambodia in 2008. It is the first indigenous youth organization and the third indigenous peoples’ organization (IPO) in Cambodia.

The main purpose of establishing CIYA was to mobilize indigenous youth as a strong group in which the members would support each other by acting as a social network as well as to build their capacity towards working as indigenous community development workers in the future. In 2011, CIYA reviewed its membership and decided to strengthen its provincial level members' networks by setting up a secretariat and by selecting their representation to make the association's coordination and leadership stronger at local level.
