Indigenous Peoples’ Alliance of the Archipelago - Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara

Miscellaneous Information

Miscellaneous Information:

Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara - Indigenous Peoples’ Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN) is a community organization whose members consist of independent indigenous communities from various corners of Indonesia.

AMAN was established by virtue of the Congress of Indigenous Peoples (KMAN) in 1999. The Congress identified a variety of problems that threaten the existence of indigenous peoples, such as violations of human rights, customary land confiscations, a culture of harassment, policies that deliberately marginalize indigenous peoples, and discussed strategies to overcome these. As a result, AMAN was created, as an organization that would address these problems and implement the Congress decisions.

AMAN currently has more than 2000 member communities, 20 boards at provincial level and 85 boards at district level. AMAN also works in strategic partnerships with civil society networks and NGOs that support and strengthen indigenous peoples.
