Promotion of Indigenous and Nature Together (POINT) started as a response to the lack of organizations working for indigenous peoples’ issues in Myanmar and led by indigenous peoples themselves. With the increasing interest of the new government in the economic development of the country, most indigenous land has already been marked for special economic zones, mega dam projects, mono cropping, such as rubber plantation, gold and coal mining, the construction of roads, deep sea ports, etc.

Therefore, there is an urgent need to raise awareness on the UNDRIP and particularly the principles of FPIC, as well as rights based approaches to development mechanism. REDD+ is an important mechanims in Myanmar and at the same time has the possibilty of opening the door to discuss indigenous issues. POINT is taking actively part with REDD+ related awareness raising and capacity building activities for indigenous communities in Myanmar.
